‘Shoulding’ All Over Yourself

‘Shoulding’ All Over Yourself

Nigel Marsh author of Fat Forty and Fired said: Often people work long hard hours at jobs they hate to earn money to buy things they don’t need, to impress people they don’t like.

How true is this for you?

Anthony Robbins said people ‘should all over themselves.’ I often hear when I career coach people that they should be in this role, at that level, and so on.

I meet far fewer people who are genuinely happier doing the things they want to do. Most do what they think they should be doing.

When I sit at my computer and think that I should write something, my energy drains.

Yet, when I sit and write what I want to write, then my energy rises and things are easier.

Have you noticed the same?

Have you also noticed that when people do what they want to do, there is a natural energy about them?

A coachee arrived to his career coaching session feeling flat and directionless. When he left, he did so with a renewed sense of vigour, having unloaded his should do things – having also reconsidered his life’s want to dos.
